The aim of this exercise is to transcribe the scanned listings from the Second Geodetic Levelling (2GL),
and more importantly, to translate the surveyor's descriptions into something meaningful today.
  • To start visit the Index, and choose the line(s) you wish to transcribe.
  • Click the Pair Code to open/save a blank File for that line.
  • Then open the relevent Scanned page by clicking the page number and copy the data over. (The meanings of the columns are below. )
  • Then for the fun bit - going out and checking the locations. Update the Status and Location columns appropriatlly.
  • Then simply email the completed CSV back to Barry, so that it can be included in the results. Don't worry about sending updates as the CSV should just drop in, it will be good to get what ever progress you have.

The suggested format for transcribing these lists is as follows -
Field's in bold are important fields! others optional
(example based on Barry's plot of Church Stretton to Oswestry)

This data should be saved as a csv file (please ensure this includes a header) and emailed to Barry Hunter,
who's using a series of automagic scripts to collate the data. Various lists and analysis are then available
